Web Design

For Digitalis, I wrote a web application which helps doctors to look up medical information and write prescriptions. It is integrated with existing medical systems using XML-RPC calls.

You can try out a demo version of the application here. To use, just select a patient and, on the next page, select an ICPC code and press "Call prescriptor".

Web sites with style and functionality, guaranteed

When designing a website to represent your company, it is important to keep in a good balance of good style, user-friendliness and accessibility. Call me old-school, but too many web sites hide useful information under piles of flashy graphics and flash animations while forgetting that the basic purpose of most websites is to inform.

My philosophy of web site design is the subtle approach is better, that clean visual design coupled with simple CSS-styled HTML provides a web site which loads fast, is accessible to all browsers, and provides a better user experience.

However, even if I prefer a minimalist approach to things like Flash or Javascript, they are sometimes invaluable to providing a feature-rich web-based application. I think the Swedish word lagom, or "just the right amount", applies here. You'll see it in my work.

I can develop sites from set of simple static HTML pages to complicated database-driven web applications. I am especially experienced with writing web sites based on PHP scripts with a MySQL backend, but I am familiar with a number of other SQL dialects and scripting languages as well. Modern web applications also do a lot of interfacing with other computer systems, and in thoses cases it helps that I have worked with XML-RPC and DCOM to keep your web application working well with legacy systems.
